The Assistant Secretary-General of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), Hafaidh Hafaidh, said in a press statement that the latest proposal submitted by the government during the negotiations regarding the increase in wages of public work is an increase between 70 and 130 dinars (24 and 45 dollars).
Hafaidh stated that the government's proposals are still far from the union’s demands, which call for an increase not less than that obtained by the employees of national companies, to adjust their purchasing power affected by the rise in prices, stressing that the general strike in the public sector and public service is still as scheduled on 17 January, if the government does not meet the expectations of more than 650 000 public sector employees.
