The Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) managed last week to end and settle the problems of more than 50 000 construction sites’ workers, working in various administrative departments in villages and governorates in a fragile situation and with very low wages.
The agreement stipulates a set of principles, foremost of which is to give priority to the settlement of this file to about 9 000 workers carrying out sensitive administrative tasks by enabling them to work as contractual for one year before their integration into the civil service as a first step towards the generalization of the contract for all the farmers.
In addition, it stipulates that each worker will be allowed to leave the public sector with a grant of 36 salaries i.e. approximately 14 000 dinars (4700 dollars) with the possibility of obtaining a loan to finance a project up to 40 000 dinars (13 500 dollars), along with the settlement of the situation of all the university degree holders.
