The Committee for the Defence of Freedoms of Trade Union and Labour Rights held its weekly meeting on Tuesday (January 8th) to look into the obstacles facing the trade union committees, which did not run their elections or the union committees under establishment. In fact, they are facing many obstacles and intransigence by the Ministry of Manpower and its directorates.
The attendees decided to go to the Minister of Manpower and to introduce their problems and obstacles and work on removing them, in order to enable trade unions to work and complete the procedures of its establishment.
They also discussed the new labour law bill and the most important amendments to the last version before the withdrawal of the law and the re-amendment of the articles.
It is worth mentioning that the most important of these amendments is the one related to wages, where a new definition of the basic wage was invented as the basic wage, which is the fixed amount received by workers, without deduction for any reason, which was not introduced by workers as from the point of view of the attendees, the basic wage must be the workers’ total remuneration.
The attendees emphasized that the latest version did not witness any major changes regarding the bill, especially in terms of irregular employment, which necessitated the formulation of a set of articles related to the employment conditions for instance addressing the shortcomings that did not address the situation of irregular employment.
