The Moroccan Workers’ Union decided to launch protest movements from 10 to 20 January 2019, including marches, strikes, regional and sectoral protests and all forms of struggle in protest against the violation of the trade union freedoms and the non-meeting of the working class’ demands.
This was during the Union's National Council meeting at the central headquarters in Casablanca on Thursday, 27 December 2018, with the presence of its members, representing all the regional and local associations, professional federations, national unions and the Progressive Union of Moroccan women, young and retired workers.
The members of the National Council noted down the suffering and frustration of the various Moroccan groups, as a result of the pressure of the high living costs, the deterioration of the social services, the absence of opportunities for young people, the violation of the retirees’ rights, the huge increase in the unemployment rates, the fragile work in the public sector and the suffering of workers under daily threats to exclude them, under the authority of employers, with the disregard of the public authorities regarding their abuses and violations the workers' rights and trade union representatives.
The members of the National Council highlighted the violation of the trade union freedoms, which reached the abstention and refusal of the authorities to hand over the arrival of the depository to the trade union offices, in addition to the expulsion and restrictions on the trade union officials, as well as, their presence in trials on the basis of fabricated files and false charges.
The members of the National Council praised the positions and initiatives taken by the National Secretariat of the Moroccan Workers’ Union, led by the decision to boycott all the social dialogue sessions, in which the government does not present new consistent offers that would meet the legitimate demands of the Moroccan Workers’ Union, warning of the consequences of the crisis situation and the intransigence of the government and its continuation to ignore the working class and wage earners.
The members of the National Council of the Union blamed the government for the deterioration of the social conditions, and condemned its insistence on obstructing the social dialogue by not meeting the just and legitimate demands of the working class, stressing its adherence its demands, including the general increase in wages in the private sector, public services and all the public institutions. Moreover, the National Council of the Union asked for tax reduction, the raising of the minimum wage, the need to meet the demands of a number of groups affected by the system of the civil service, public institutions and territorial communities, the implementation of rest of the agreement of 26 April 2011, and to look for fair solutions to the current sectoral problems.
The members also expressed their solidarity with the legitimate protests of the various categories of employees from the public sector including, administrators, technicians, administrative assistants, technical assistants, professors, who were obliged work as contractual workers along with other groups. They also decided to hold the 12th Conference in March 2019.
