The Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) calls on the head of state to intervene to put an end to the social tension

The Secretary-General of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), Noureddine Taboubi, called on the Tunisian presidency to intervene to settle the social tension, because of the seriousness of the situation.

He said in a statement published by the Tunisian presidency on Wednesday evening, following a meeting with the President Béji Caid Sibsi that "there are priorities, including the social tension, the unprecedented deterioration of the purchasing of all time in Tunisia" calling in this context the presidency to intervene in regard of the general strike scheduled for 17 January 2019.

On last 24 November, the Tunisian General Labour Union decided to carry out a general strike throughout the country, including the public sectors, as a new escalation, regarding the continued political and social tension in the country and in the context of the government's non-response to raise the salaries of the public sector employees.
