More than 1 000 workers at the Al-Hajjar iron and steel complex in Annaba province continue their protest against the head of the company, who is accused of mismanagement by the “Sedar” Workers Syndicate, which is leading a strike and threaten to escalate by stopping the production, if the administration does not meet their demands.
Yesterday, the workers closed down the headquarters of the General Directorate of Al-Hajjar complex, threatening to escalate the protest, if the manager does not meet their demands, according to union sources.
The contractor workers to be appointed and recruited as permanent, which was rejected by the director of the company, who is accused of illegal recruitment and promotion practices.
The workers accuse the administration of discrimination through a series of practices that the workers confirm that it does affect the quality of production and have led the company to a critical situation such as the return of the shipment of iron from Italy.
The workers also accuse the administration of Al-Hajjar complex, which had benefited from a huge support budget by the state, despite the difficult economic conditions, of committing illegal abuses, including random promotions, illegal recruitment and favouritism, and marginalization regarding competent workers.
It is noteworthy that there are 1 599 non-permanent labour contracts, including 498 with subsidized employment contracts, until November 2018. These contracts date back to 2016, 2017 and 2018.
