Jordan: Threats to engineers and agricultural engineers because of their participation in a strike

The engineers and agricultural engineers’ unions expressed their rejection of the threats and harassment methods employed by the Ministry of Education towards the employees who participated in the education strike to ask for their employment rights.

The two unions stressed in a letter addressed to the Minister of Education that these practices should be stopped and that no employee should be harmed because of his/her peaceful participation, stressing that the expression of opinion is a constitutional right for the Jordanian citizens, guaranteed by the constitution.

The two unions stressed that their direct threat to discourage them from continuing to ask for their rights is contrary to the constitution and the law and the government's efforts to promote freedom of opinion. They asked "to stop these practices and not to harm any employee who participates in a peaceful protest in any way."

The engineers and agricultural engineers at the Ministry of Education launched a strike to ask for the financial equality with their counterparts in other ministries and in the public institutions.
