The most representative trade union centres in Morocco withdrew from the social dialogue sessions on Monday, considering the government's offer of “Saad Al-Din Al-Othmani” a poor and unsatisfactory one, putting him in trouble.
The centres of the Democratic Confederation of Labour (CTD), the Moroccan Workers’ Union and the General Federation of Moroccan Workers confirmed that the reason for the withdrawal is mainly the absence of a serious offer by the government, which serves the interests of the working class in Morocco.
The representatives of the centres said in a press statement that the government is sticking to the same offer presented in the negotiation table months ago, pointing out that its intransigence confirms the lack of the political will to settle this file, which affects a large group of Moroccans.
It is known that trade unions cling to the increase of 500 dirhams ($ 50) in the employees’ wages in the public and private sectors, instead of 400 dirhams for public sector employees distributed over 3 years, as proposed by the government.
The unions ask also for 400 dirhams ($ 40) as family compensation while maintaining all demands for tax cuts, compensation for residence and working in remote areas, as well as, the raising wages in the private sector.
On the other hand, the “Othmani” government insists on implementing its offer, which includes an increase of 400 dirhams ($ 40) on the wages of the "lower classes", who do not exceed the tenth ladder, and an increase of 100 dirhams (10 dollars) as family compensation for each child in the public and private sectors, and the raising of the birth grant to 1 000 dirhams ($ 100).
