The workers of the maintenance company of electric trains in the area of "Kharouba" in Algiers, continue their strike for the fourth month in a row, and stressed the continuation of the protest, until meeting their demands to return their dismissed colleagues to their posts.
This decision comes in protest against the threats and arbitrary actions that have been practiced on some of the company's cadres, who asked for the cancellation of the workers’ layoff decisions, including an official unionist and the activation of the committee on the protection of the site for its technicalities, as well as, the opening of the door of dialogue.
According to trade union sources, since the appointment of the current director as the manager the company in 2015, workers are living in difficult circumstances, exacerbated by the lack of dialogue and the violation of the right of trade union, as well as, the accumulation of professional and social problems.
The administration filed a lawsuit in the court, Hussein Day, on September 3, 2018 on the grounds of the suspension of the strike, but it was rejected by the court, followed by another case at the emergency social chamber, which was also rejected. Before the court’s decided on the latter case, the company’s administration summoned 6 workers, including 3 members of the trade union bureau to the Disciplinary Board, where they were suspended from work.
The workers confirmed that several letters and complaints were sent to the Ministry of Transport in order to find the most suitable solution for them, in light of the harsh conditions they have been living for 3 years. However, they did not receive any response from the Ministry, so they decided to continue their strike until their demands are met.
