The 4th ITUC World Congress under the slogan: Building workers’ power: Change the rules

The 4th ITUC World Congress started in Copenhagen, Denmark, on the 2nd of December, under the slogan " Building workers’ power: Change the rules", which is held every four years, with the participation of more than 1 200 delegates from different unions around the world.

The International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) is the largest trade union organization in the world, with more than 207 million members in 331 trade union organizations from 163 countries.

The inaugural session on Sunday (December 2nd) delivered speeches by the Danish Prime Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, the Copenhagen Mayor, Frank Jensen, the Danish Trade Unions’ President, Lizette Risgaard LO, and the President of the ITUC, João Antônio Felício, as well as, the ILO Director-General, Guy Ryder.

The congress will focus on a range of issues of concern to the labour world, including the future of employment, the issue of gender equality, the global economic and social changes, the challenges faced by multinational workers, climate justice and the impact of climate change on the labour world. Moreover, it will focus on discussing issues on social protection, as well as, issues on freedoms, democracy, peace, and other topics of fundamental importance to the ITUC movement.

The congressmen will vote on the ITUC Plan of Action and Roadmap for the next four years.
