Algeria: The Ministry of Health approves the civil service grant for resident physicians

The Ministry of Health approved the civil service grant for resident physicians in an executive decree specifying its duration and terms of use, which was issued in the latest issue of the Official Gazette, without consulting the representatives of the independent coordination of resident doctors or discussing their pending demands since November 2017.

The members of the independent coordination of resident doctors confirmed in media statements that the file of residents is still ongoing, in light of the absence of dialogue and the silence of both the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Higher Education.in fact, the concerned decided to freeze the protest movements at the present time due to the political situation witnessed by the country, waiting for the authorities to implement their promises and meet their demands.

They said that there are signs of the denouement of the crisis by starting the implementation of the civil service grant and the succeeding residents’ obtention of the right to visit their families. In addition, a number of health directorates made efforts to grant housing to the residents. Meanwhile, the hospitals’ miserable conditions continue due to the lack of financial means, the absence of the adequate conditions during the shifts, and the complete absence of specialized doctors during the shifts. In fact, they hold fully responsibility on the resident, although he is a doctor under training and has not yet completed his studies and he is not proficient yet in urgent cases.

On the other hand, the problem of the exclusion of 850 resident physicians, who failed at the interns’ end-of-specialization examination continues, as they become unemployment overnight, before passing the exam in next April.
