Dozens of workers of the Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company carried out a strike on November 4 to ask for a number of labor demands.
The protesters accused the company’s administration and the trade union committee of stopping the health insurance services for the employees, despite their payment of the insurance premiums, the lack of safe drinking water and the negligence of the public safety conditions in transporting workers to and from the company and endangering them by forcing them to go through the international road to take their buses, as, well as, the lack of job security.
According to their testimonies, the workers suffer from difficult working conditions such as the spread of unpleasant smells, the non-provision of a premium for these smells, the non-provision of a work outfit to protect them from the danger of the profession and the non-compliance with the working hours stipulated in the Labor Law.
The protestors said they had submitted many books and correspondences to the union to ask for the dissolution of the workers committee formed in 2015, accusing them of standing with the company's management against the workers by refusing to deal with their demands, as well as, the attempts to compel them to bow to their will, to support them by granting them privileges related to the health insurance, leaves, premiums and financial incentives.
