The General Federation of Iraqi Trade Unions participated in the mass protest of the trade unions and syndicates organized in “Tahrir” Square, in Baghdad, last Friday, during which they raised slogans reflecting their position regarding the formation of “Adel Abdul Mahdi” government and the appointment of incompetent figures according to clear partisan and sectarian quotas.
The federation stressed that in light of the deteriorating conditions imposed on the Iraqi people with their political, economic, social and security aspects and the continuing crises created by the political blocs that dominate the legislative and executive authorities, the formation of the latter government emphasizes the non-exit from the quota approach use, as it is still followed by some political figures, considering it as an abhorrent approach.
The General Federation highlighted in its statement that the appointment of non-specialized and incompetent people is the predominant feature for the successive governments, which will make the path of reform and change without a realistic program more difficult, a program that meets the citizens’ demands and their right to security, stability, services, development and construction, and the ability to face the corruption that hampers building to block the path of the corrupt.
The union stressed that the Iraqi working class and its trade union movement will not wait longer to guarantee their rights and defend their national interests. They will face the program of the next government with full force if it does not meet the needs and demands of the people, and the workers, who are working to have a free and dignified life.
