The General federation of Iraqi workers calls for the formation of inspection committees to put an end to the suffering of the electricity workers

The temporary workers and daily wages at the Ministry of Electricity have protested in most of the country's governorates, during these days against the violations they are subjected to concerning the non-implementation of the minimum wage of 350 000 dinars and their exclusion from the Social Security Law and any other pension law. They have also protested against their exposition to risks and incidents which resulted mainly in the death and disability of many of them, as well as, their deprivation of a paid leave and other violations.

The General federation of Iraqi workers expressed its condemnation of this situation and its support for this segment of 42 thousand workers in the Ministry of Electricity, calling in its statement to respect the laws and international conventions ratified by the Iraqi government and to adhere to the decent work standards, occupational health and safety standards, and the right of retirement and social security.

The federation called also on the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs to establish committees to inspect and investigate about these violations and their repercussions, and to put an end to the workers’ suffering.
