The Sky News website reported that nearly 6 000 Syrians, including 517 refugees registered on the United Nations liste, have left Jordan to return to their country.
According to security sources, Jordan hosts about 650 000 Syrian refugees registered by United Nations, while Amman estimates the number of those who have resorted to the country since the outbreak of the conflict in Syria to be about 1.3 million Syrians.
The main border crossing between Jordan and Syria was opened on October 15 after nearly three years of closure due to the conflict in Syria. The crossing was closed in 2015, a few months after the closure of the old “Jomrek” crossing controlled by the opposition fighters in October 2014.
