Morocco: A successful strike in the road transport sector in ports

The workers of the road transport sector in the ports of Morocco have entered into a strike since last Monday, in protest against the government's disregard of the submitted social and professional de-mands.

The strike included all the ports in different parts of the kingdom, and involved trucks of various types.

The protesters are asking for an immediate reduction in the price of gasoline that fits the current state’s miserable situation, and to adjust the driver's career, as well as, the transport code, according to specific criteria and in partnership with the representatives of the carriers.

The sector workers called for the elimination of the tax on the utility vehicles (formerly tax on the axis), as well as, the implementation of the provisions of the Traffic Code 52-05 on weight control.

The protesters also called on the government to deal with the renewal of the barn seriously, through the ministry's grant of the suspended broken remuneration for the beneficiaries of the carriers, simplifying the procedures for benefiting from the program and not neglecting the port keepers. Moreover, the Na-tional Ports Authority should respect all the decisions agreed with the carriers and let the workers par-ticipate in the decision-making, which pertain to the work within the ports.

Besides, the sector professionals ask for opening the field of investment for small and medium-sized en-terprises by all the financial institutions with a guarantee from the central fund and the facilitation of their access to management loans while combating the illegal competition.
