The secretary-general of the Tunisian Union of Individual Taxis confirmed that the general strike in the taxi sector, called by the union is still on going.
The secretary-general of the union denounced in media statements the continuation of what he called "the silence of the authorities regarding the workers’ pressing demands and the ignoration of the union in the negotiating table," stressing that the Tunisian Union of Individual Taxis did not receive any call neither from the Ministry nor from the Interior or the Transport and Finance and ministries despite the several correspondences addressed to it in protest against what they consider " a marginalization of the sector, as well as, the supervision authority’s delaying to meet their demands."
The individual taxi drivers are asking in particular for an extension of the period of technical inspection, a legal solution to traffic accidents and the opening of an investigation in the suspicions of corruption related to the allocation of individual taxi licenses to drivers in different governorates.
