Bahrain: The Gulf Air Management dismisses some workers arbitrarily

The Gulf Air Workers' Union and the General Union of Air Hosts condemned the Gulf Air's decision to lay off workers on Wednesday without the workers' representatives’ consultancy, considering this measure a move to marginalize the trade union law and labor law, as well as, the collective bargaining agreement between the company's management and Gulf Air Workers' Union.

The two unions expressed in a statement their regret about the company’s dismissal of a group of workers, who served this national company for a long time and during its difficult moments, who are arbitrary dismissed under the pretext of the restructuring without consulting the workers' representatives through reducing workers outside the dialogue and the negotiation table.

The two unions considered that the dismissal decision has serious repercussions on the workers and their social and economic life, especially that their jobs are considered as rare, which would hamper their recruitment in other institutions, pointing out that the company should take all these aspects into consideration in this ungrateful decision.

The two unions expressed their surprise that the company began to reduce the national manpower, in light of its repeated statements about expansion. It is strange that this layoff is compulsory, without giving any choice to the workers, and happened during the period of parliamentary elections in Bahrain and in light of the absence of the people’s representatives.
