The Tunisian General Labor Union decides: to launch a general strike in the national companies on 24 October and 22 November in the public sector

The National Authority of the Tunisian General Labor Union decided to strike in the public sector on 24 October and 22 November, in protest against the government's procrastination to negotiate the wage increases for workers and in protest against the deterioration of the workers’ purchasing power.

The union considered that the government is insisting on the policy of procrastination. In fact, it avoided the commitments it has signed in several occasions, and threats the uncontrollable social climate. The Union condemned the government's retreat in implementing its commitments in many sectors and entities.

In its final statement issued last Thursday, the union expressed its readiness to confront the government's attempt to individualize the decision on the fate of public institutions and to encourage privatization, and neglect and abandon the public domain and the people’s interest. Moreover, it renewed its rejection of the government's rush to negotiate the partnership of the so-called ALECA with the European Union. Besides, it considers it a unilateral and unequal negotiation that did not assess the previous agreements and their repercussions on the economy of the country, thus striking the principle of partnership, targeting the completion of striking the economy of the country by striking the agricultural sector and mortgage Tunisia and its entire sits strategic sectors.

The ILO warned against the unilateralism of the formulation of the 2019 budget and the taking of measures that are not social in nature, which would burden the general public. The ILO rejected the government's policy of escaping regarding the abandoning of the public institutions under partial or total privatization or the so-called the partnership between the private sector and the public sector, stressing its adherence to the right of workers in a rewarding review of their wages and its defense of the public facility and people’s interest and institutions.
