14 irregular migrants drowned on the Nador coast in Morocco

About 14 illegal migrants drowned on the Nador coast (the northern of Morocco) Nador after sailing from a nearby coast to Spain.

According to media sources, a traditional fishing boat rescued a young man in his twenties from Nador, and another boat found the body of another young man, who was one of the irregular migrants who left abroad a rubber boat from the coast of “Charna” in the city of Nador, around 4 pm, last Friday.

The sources added that the Moroccan security forces quoted the survivor young man, who confirmed that the rubber boat had an unknown damage, which led to its explosion and the drown of some 14 youths out of 16 irregular migrants on board.

The Spanish Coast Guard announced the death of two migrants, who drowned in the Mediterranean. They were two children (7 years old), while 16 Moroccan migrants were considered to be missing after the sinking of the ship.

According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), about 42 500 irregular migrants have arrived in Spain since the beginning of this year by sea, while 433 were drowned or lost. In 2017, 12 366 migrants arrived to Spain, and the number of those who died during the voyage was 145, i.e. the number of migrants and victims during the first nine months of this year is three times bigger than that of the previous year.

The reports state that there are about 250 000 irregular Moroccan immigrants in Spain, not counting those who are in the rest of the European countries. In fact, with the arrival of 48 000 irregular Moroccan migrants this year in Spain, the number of irregular Moroccan immigrants who have obtained legal residency documents in various EU countries, since 2015, has increased, reaching nearly 300 000 Moroccans, encouraging many others Moroccans, thus, to venture and come to the ‘European Paradise’.
