The regional union office of the National Union of Taxi Drivers in "Casablanca Settat" of the Moroccan Workers’ Union decided to organize a protest in the Royal Army Street near the headquarters of the Moroccan Workers’ Union. In fact, the organizing committee was given the power whether to march or use any other form of peaceful protest on Wednesday September 26, 2018 starting from 9 am.
The drivers ask for the establishment of a serious dialogue with the governor to stop the illegal disciplinary sanctions, the excessive use of power and the return of their driving licenses, which were arbitrarily withdrawn from them. They also stressed the need to support the fleet renewal and to activate the decision of the possibility of setting advertising signs on their taxis, in addition to the establishment of taxi stations as promised by the former governor.
The drivers called also for speeding up the procedures for expanding the urban area for the second type and supporting the territorial authorities for the taxi sector, such as the urban transport and the "tramway" as a model.
The trade union office said in its meeting on September 22 at the headquarters of the Moroccan Workers’ Union that the occupational and social situation of the taxi drivers is deteriorating and continues to worsen, as a result of the pressures exerted by the concerned authorities and the harsh conditions of their workplace, in light of the absence of the most basic social rights. Moreover, the union office suffers from the mismanagement of the sector and the absence of any clear strategy for the rehabilitation of the concerned authorities.
The office revealed that instead of opening the door for dialogue in order to find solutions to the imbalance and shortcomings experienced by the sector, a tyrant policy was adopted based on the imposition of disciplinary sanctions, which amounted to the withdrawal of the license of confidence for a group of workers for three months because of the violation of resolution No. 2907 that requires only one month as a sanction.
