The General Union of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) staff announced a comprehensive strike on Monday in all the UNRWA institutions in protest against the UNRWA's decisions against the employees.
The head of the union in Gaza, “Amir Mishal”, said in a speech to thousands of employees, who protested in front of the agency's headquarters west of Gaza City, that the employees are against the reduction of the UNRWA services to the Palestinian refugees and against the infringement of work security for the 13 000 employees who are the first victims in the Gaza Strip.
The head of the union said also that the employees’ union has taken bold steps to save the agency's administration by securing $ 400 000 to protect the employees to stay on their posts until the end of September and launch a donation campaign. Meanwhile, the administration should start a real dialogue to settle this crisis through voluntary retirement, as well as, to fill the vacant vacancies funded by the agency's administration, and the use of vacant posts following the travel of many employees.
