The secretary of the department, “Aisha Hamoudha”, said that the campaign includes field visits in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip to familiarize women with the laws and regulations governing the work sites, which will increase their efficiency and familiarity with the laws and the best working methods, including the mastering of the negotiation skills and the signing of collective labor agreements.
The campaign will also contribute to facing harassment and the restrictions imposed on workers in the Palestinian labor market and the occupied territories, thereby empowering the working women, reducing gender inequality and discrimination in the workplace on the basis of gender, and encouraging the trade union membership.
For his part, “Shaher Saad”, the Secretary General of the Palestine General Federation of Trade Unions, stressed that the struggle for the working women’s rights to fix the rules of decent work cannot be completed without establishing a trade union organization capable of defending them well. In fact, the presence of a trade union is effective for workers' aspirations to equal employment and fair wages.
Palestine General Federation of Trade Unions pointed out that it will stand with the local and international partners, who launched the decent work campaign around the world, adding that the General Federation encourages the working women to join trade union organizations in their workplaces or to work on forming and establishing them if they do not exist. In fact, they contribute to avoiding violence and empower women and defend their rights.
It also stressed that trade unions were working on protecting the economic and social rights of working women, which were still incomplete and subject to violations in the world of work, especially for the working women in the informal and fragile sectors.
