Tunisia rejected Italy's request to accept an exceptional deportation of 184 irregular migrants who arrived at Lampedusa on Friday morning.
The newspaper Italian "La Repubblica" said on Saturday (September 15th) that Tunisia responded to the request of the Italian Interior Minister "Matteo Salvini," that it is committed to the implementation of a previous agreement with the Italian authorities to deport the illegal residents through two voyages per week, where each one consists of 80 people, and that it refuses any other deportation outside this agreement.
Meanwhile, the Tunisian Foreign Minister, “Khamis Al-Jhinawi” is expected to meet the Italian Interior Minister, “Matteo Salvini”, on Tuesday to discuss about the issue of irregular migration. The Italian minister is expected to seek to accelerate in the deportation of the irregular Tunisian migrants to their country.
It is noteworthy that the Tunisian migrants rank the first among Italy’s migrants this year with about 4 200 migrants, of whom 3 500 have been ordered to leave but only 1 700 have been deported.
