The aggravation of the Basra protests and the protestors burn the embassy of Iran

The Iraqi Ministry of Health announced that the number of the protest victims, in the province of Basra on Friday resulted in the death of two protestors and the injury of 45 others, due to the fire and gas bombs.

Out of rage, the protestors burned the Iranian consulate building in the province. Some activists said that “the burning of the building came in protest against the Iran's cut off of electricity from Basra months ago, and due to the Iran’s pumping of large amounts of brackish water into “Shatt Al-Arab”, which contributed to the exacerbation of the water pollution crisis in the province."

The protests intensified in Basra, during the past few days, where the province witnessed the burning of the building of the provincial council and the headquarters of some political parties.

The Basra province has been witnessing for months these angry protests, where protestors ask for the provision of some services, primarily the drinking water and electricity, and then developed to the intervention of the security forces, which led to the death and injury of a number of protestors.
