The Moroccan human rights organizations warned the government of the repercussions of the Rif movement detainees’ continued hunger strike. They called on the prime minister to show bravery and publicly apologize to the detainees for the official media and the majority of the government parties’ irrelevant accusations and the questioning of their patriotism.
“The Moroccan coalition of human rights organizations” sent an open letter to the prime minister calling him for an "urgent intervention" regarding the open strike of some political detainees: “Nasser Al-Zafzafi”, “Mohammed Al-Haki” and “Rabiaa Al-Ablaq”. It stressed its concern about “Al-Zafzafi”’s announcement to enter an open brutal hunger strike until martyrdom, in protest against the continuous forms of persecution, for more than a year, since his arrest with other young people from rural areas for exercising their rights, which are guaranteed by the international charters’ authority and the Constitution of 2011.
The coalition, which includes more than 20 human rights organizations, bodies and associations also called for the opening of a serious and responsible dialogue with “Nasser Al-Zafzafi” and his colleagues in order to meet immediately to all their demands. In fact, the prime minister is responsible for the prison institutions and he is obliged to protect them and protect all the detainees healthily, psychologically and medically regarding any risk that may threaten their safety and their lives
In its letter, the coalition urged the Prime Minister to speed up the settling of the ongoing state of tension in the countryside, “Jarada” and other regions of the country through the political, societal and human rights awareness away from the approach of your security government and to calm down the political atmosphere by immediately releasing all the detainees of the social movement.
