A Belgian construction firm confirmed the death of a Nepalese worker two weeks ago while he was working at the “Al Wakra” stadium, one of the venues for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The 23-year-old worker in “Al-Sakkala” died at “Al-Wakra” stadium (which costed $ 680 million), which is set to be the main venue for the tournament.
A spokeswoman of the giant Belgian construction company, “BESIX”, one of the main contractors in the building of the stadium, said that: "We can confirm that this worker died after falling while working on the building of a corridor for one of the subcontractors in the workshop."
The accident investigation team includes, for the first time, a member of the World Trade Union (BWI), the union said on its website that the investigation would consider "the nature and cause of the incident."
The conditions of foreign workers in the projects related to the 2022 World Cup are criticized by many international organizations because of the conditions in which they work in addition to their deprivation of their professional and social rights.
