The workers of “Al-Nahda” dam project continue their strike, which started a week ago, as the project management did not meet their professional and social demands.
The "Anadolu" news agency quoted the Ethiopian official TV channel that the workers of the dam project are asking for the increase in their salaries due to their harsh conditions, and the improvement of their basic services and health insurance.
The workers accuse the Italian company’s management “Salini Impreglio”, the main contractor of the project, of mistreatment and improper handling of the project. They also revealed in their testimony to the Ethiopian television that they are always threatened with expulsion without receiving any dues for their services.
It is noteworthy that Ethiopia launched in 2011 the project of “Al-Nahda” dam which is still ongoing in the province of " Benishangul-Gumuz " on the Ethiopian-Sudanese border, more than 980 km far from the capital “Addis Ababa”.
