Tunisia / Manouba: The workers of “Tom” factory are committed to not expel any worker or trade unionist

The workers of “l’Appetissante” factory known as the factory of "Tom" in “Wadi Lil” city in “Manouba” governorate and the specialist in the manufacture of refreshments continue their strike in front of the headquarters of the governorate, to ask for their return to work and ensure that no worker or trade union official would be fired according to their union activity and previous legal protest movements.

The management of the factory has decided to stop the work for about a month, following the workers’ legal strike to ask for the settling of a number of pending professional and social problems. Despite an agreement signed between the social parties, which stipulates the mandatory return to work on 15 August, the factory’s management insisted on the referral of 8 workers to the disciplinary board to hamper the trade union activities and eliminate the unionists through the mechanism of expulsion, as they asked legitimately to improve their professional conditions, as confirmed by members of the factory’s union.

The union's members said in media statements that the allegations about the existence of evidence condemning the eight workers is unfounded. In fact, things have developed after the strike of July 17th because of the strangers, who were brought in to guard and who created problems, on the pretext of guarding the factory. Thus, the workers were the best guards of their factory, since the Tunisian revolution and they spare no effort and no time to protect it and improve its economic situation.
