Jordan: Young workers are the most exposed to work accidents

The Social Security Corporation revealed that most of the work injuries were recorded among the young workers with a life expectancy of 35 years.

The Corporation highlighted that the cumulative number of insured people who received the death benefit due to a work injury reached 3139 cases, while 4426 people are insured on the disability pension either total or partial permanent. In addition, it called on the need for the establishments and employers to provide the safety and occupational conditions and standards, as well as, health and tools at various work sites, and improve their levels, and working on training their employees to minimize their exposure to work accidents, which would positively be reflected on improving the productivity in their facilities and the health of their employees.

The provisions of the law affirm that in case of accidents and injuries, the company must inform the corporation of the accident through writing and attach the initial medical report within a period that does not exceed 14 days from the date of the accident. In case the company does not comply with what is stipulated in this provision, it should bear 15% of the medical care expenses and the full daily allowance of the injured worker, in accordance with the provisions of the law. It should also provide the corporation with the original copies of the medical reports and bills, and any other detailed and sealed reports, in addition to a copy of the police investigation, a traffic accident plan, and the police investigation of criminal incidents.

The Social Security Corporation also pays for medical care including, the cost of medical treatment and accommodation in the hospital, in accordance with the approved medical fees in the institution and the expenses of the injured transfer from his workplace or residence to the place where he is treated, in addition to the qualifying medical services and equipment including artificial limbs.

The Social Security Corporation adhere also to pay the daily allowances to the injured person if he is unable to work because of his work injury, by paying a daily allowance for each day which is about 75% of his daily wage, which was originally paid for his contributions on the day of injury, in addition to the corporation's commitment to pay the salaries and compensations due.
