The continuation of Iran's labor protests and the return of the truck strike

Some Iranian activists reported on the social networks that a number of truck drivers entered in a partial strike on Saturday in various governorates including “Mashhad”, the center of the recent popular protests in Iran and “Ahwaz”, as well as, the provinces of “Yazd” and “Isfahan”. They protested against the decline of their monthly income, and the increasing burden of the expenditure and the government fees imposed on them.

According to the Persian website “radiozamaneh”, some activists consider that "The new strike is the second wave of truck drivers' protests that have paralyzed most of the main roads linking the country's provinces. The Iranian authorities were unable to limit its spread in 279 major cities for several weeks, while the objections of drivers were renewed because of the government's disregard of their previous promises to settle their pending problems.

In the same context, the “Ahwaz” mass labor protests continued in a steel factory, in protest against the delay in the payment of the workers’ salaries and dues for several months, while a strike by hundreds of workers, inside a sugar production complex continued, in “Khuzestan” in the southwest.

According to “radio zamaneh”, the workers of the Iranian National Steel Group in “Ahwaz” organized protest marches in front of the “Khuzestan” provincial building because of the delay of their salaries for 5 months, which has become common in Iran because of the economic crises, especially after the devaluation of the local currency "Rial".

The Iranian authorities have recently launched a campaign of arrests of several labor activists against the backdrop of similar protests, as there were reports of threats from the Iranian intelligence to the protesters of harassment and repression if the strikes and protests continue.
