The contractual and daily workers in the electricity sector have been protesting for two weeks now in a number of Iraqi provinces, following the General Union of Electricity Workers’ call of the General federation of Iraqi workers to ask for their legitimate rights.
The protestors renewed their demands to include them in the Ministry of Electricity as permanent workers or to support them with the Labor Law No. 37 of 2015 and the Pension and Social Security Laws, as the Ministry of Electricity and some other institutions are trying to violate the law and the Iraqi constitution.
The protestors threatened to escalate their movements if the Ministry of Electricity and its institutions insisted on rejecting their legitimate demands.
