A new confrontation between the education unions and the Moroccan government is looming as the first regulation of the largest contractual recruitment operation will take place soon. The unions have announced their participation in a mass strike organized by the National Coordinating Committee of Teachers, who have been contracted by force on 29 and 30 August, in front of the Ministry of National Education in Rabat.
The National Federation of Education of the Moroccan Workers’ Union called on the government to open a serious and responsible sectoral dialogue to discuss and settle the existing imbalances, and puts an end to the existing tension. Thus, it would serve the public schools and contribute to the improvement of its current situation.
In a statement, the federation denounced the Ministry of National Education's decision to take urgent and hasty decisions, especially regarding the imposition of the contractual employment, paralyzing the role of regional centers for education and training, and trying to pass the basic regulations for the regional academies of education and training.
It is expected that the government will face new sectoral problems within the Ministry of National Education after it resorted to contracts to fill the vacancy at the level of teachers in public education, where it entrusted the task to the regional academies of education and training, according to its need of teachers. However, the teachers who were recruited are asking the drop it, as they have no equal rights with the permanent teachers.
The Ministry of National Education is expected to officially announce its adoption of a basic system for the contracted teachers in the national education sector, and ministerial sources pointed out that "the new law gives them all the rights enjoyed by civil servants in public institutions; which are about 15 rights, except of the right to transfer from one regional academy to another.
