The “Sonatrach” technicians, who have been on hunger strike since July 24th, in the various headquarters of the South, and whose number was about 11 thousand technicians in the various branches and headquarters of the company decided to establish an independent national union. The preparation of this union is through holding general public meetings in various headquarters such as in “Hassi Masoud”, “Hassi Al-Raml”, “Ain Omnas”, “Al-Sattah”, “Ghird Al-Nas”, “Qasi Tawil”, to appoint the qualified coordinators to participate in the foundation meetings to be held in the “Barakaoui Basin” or “Hassi Al Raml” after Eid Al Adha, after the return of all the workers from their compensatory holidays.
The sources said that the consultation will be expanded with other parties to be the new union of all the workers of "Sonatrach" after the failure of the national union of the General Union of Algerian workers to intervene to resolve the problems, after giving it the sufficient time, without doing anything, since the organization of the first protest movement on the occasion of the feast of fuel on February 24th.
The protesters ask for the settlement of their professional and social demands, notably the inclusion in category 21, which led them to decide to establish an independent union after Eid al-Adha to escalate their protest, especially after the increasing number of fainting cases that exceeded 30 cases since the start of the strike. In light of the union’s disregard, large number with "Bac + 3" in the various headquarters and subsidiaries entered in a hunger strike, which resulted in the company’s losses, in addition to the organization of daily vigils in front of the administrative departments, which affected the profitability of workers because of their physical and psychological exhaustion.
The strikers pointed out that the union officials traveled on recreational trips inside and outside the country, while their colleagues suffer every day, which contributed to the increase of their resolve to withstand and continue to protest and think of its escalation after the establishment of an independent union, including the transfer of protest to Algiers after the organization of peaceful stops protests in the regional directorates.
