More than 800 workers at the Needle Kraft factory in the free zone of “Shebin El Koum” city in Menoufia province launched a strike on last Thursday to ask for better financial conditions and in protest against the ill-treatment by the administration and asking for the dismissal of the production manager in the factory because of his rude behavior and non-respect of workers.
The workers said in a press statement that the strike came after the failure of all the attempts to express their legitimate demands to raise their salaries and improve their financial situation, adding that salaries in the company start from 800 pounds for assistants and 1000 pounds for production workers and about 1500 pounds for machine technicians.
The workers gathered in front of the factory refusing to work, raising slogans calling for the modification of their salaries in line with the current harsh conditions of life and the rest of the factories. Moreover, they called for the dismissal of “Hussein Hashim”, the director of production in the company for his continuous violations of the workers’ rights, in addition to the abolition of the additional working hours, which are not even paid and contrary to the Labor Law. They also asked for the guarantee of their health and social insurance covering all workers, as well as, improving the working environment.
It is noteworthy that the Pakistani management of the company hired a number of foreign workers, mostly from "Bangladesh" whose salary ranged from 200 to 300 dollars per worker.
