The public bus drivers of all the internal lines in Karak province launched a strike, on Monday to protest against the decision to remove the old buses that have been working for 12 years.
The owners and drivers of the buses confirmed that the new government decision to remove the working buses that have been working for more than 12 years means big financial losses for the owners of these buses, most of them suffer from high debts after that they have hardly bought them through borrowing money from the banks.
It is noteworthy that the internal lines in various areas of the “Karak” governorate include about 500 public minibuses of 20 passengers.
It is worth mentioning that the decision to remove the working public buses of the internal lines was a subject of protest that took place in 2008, and was suspended until 2012, following the demands of bus owners, and then returned until the completion of the modernization of the entire fleet of working buses in the kingdom until 2012. However, currently, any bus over the age of 12 years is not allowed to have an authorization, in accordance with the abovementioned decision.
