Last Monday, the Mauritanian police dispersed by force a peaceful march organized by the porters striking in the Friendship Port of Nouakchott.
According to union sources, the police used tear gas and sound bombs to disperse the protestors and chased them in the streets of Arafat in Nouakchott.
It is noteworthy that the protestors have entered in an open-ended strike since last week, accusing the government of manipulating their case and their non-adherence to the promises they have made in recent years. Moreover, they have protested against the working conditions and compensation policy they are benefiting from.
