The Secretary General of the General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions, Mr. “Hassan Al-Halwaji”, stated that a delegation from the General Secretariat on July 22nd met with a team of the Shura Council in the tripartite committee, which is concerned with the review of the retirement law, where it presented the position of the General Union in this regard.
The Secretary-General revealed that the union rejected in principle the amendment of the law since the amendment itself is not the content of the royal directive issued within the conservative popular position on the amendments that stressed the need to wait, study, reflect and move away from the monopolization of opinion. In addition, he stressed the necessity of forming the Board of Directors to include the concerned parties, specialists and experts.
The Secretary-General pointed out in a media statement that this first attitude of rejecting the amendments was based on the fact that Law No. 3 of 2008 on the unification of benefits was not originally implemented and that the advantages were not consolidated according to their preferences as stipulated by the law. He added that the reports of parliamentary committees in the performance of the Commission did not address the amendment of the law originally but identified the problem in the failure to manage the assets and imports of the commission and its investments.
