The National Union of Aircraft Maintenance Technicians in the Algerian Air confirmed its commitment to the strike scheduled for 31 July, despite the court's appeal against it in the emergency court, which challenges the legitimacy of the strike.
The head of the union accused the management of the Algerian national airline company in media statements by ignoring the demands of the maintenance workers, including the implementation of the content of the agreement, which obliges them to respect the difference between the wages of pilots and technicians, which should not exceed 2.66 percent by law, while the company’s pilots’ wages is seven times more than the salaries of technicians.
The union confirms that it has a certain data that the company is preparing to increase the wages of 10 thousand employees, including pilots and hosts, engineers and maintenance technicians, which confirms the survival of the difference between the classifications adopted in the wage scale. This classification in wages is totally rejected by the union because as it asks for the implementation of the agreement, which states that the difference between the first rank in the ladder, which belongs to the pilots and the second rank, which belongs to the technicians equals 2.66 percent of the salary, while the company adopts a big difference, where the salary of pilots exceeds seven times the maintenance workers’ salary.
