Tunisia: The postponement of the strike at the National Water Company

The General Federation of Water of the Tunisian General Labor Union postponed the strike that was expected to be held on July 26-27, 2018, to 29 and 30 August, following an agreement that was signed at a working session held on 23 July in the General Directorate of Labor Inspection and Reconciliation between the General Administration of the Foundation and the General Federation.

“Hussein Al-Charni”, the general secretary of the General Federation of Water, affirmed that this is a positive agreement that came to reinforce the company workers and employees’ demands. However, the federation had to postpone the strike, instead of its cancellation as the government’s attitude was not clear concerning the workwear tickets.

He stressed that the federation will monitor the seriousness of the implementation of this agreement over a month until getting the workwear tickets and the implementation of everything that was agreed upon.

It is worth mentioning that a number of professional and social files have been agreed upon, including the declaration of the supervisory authority to assume responsibility for taking all the measures to maintain the company as a public facility and achieve financial balances, especially with regard to investing in water resources.

The workwear of May 1, 2017 will be distributed in the coming month (August) and the workwear of May 1, 2018 will be distributed in December.

The negotiations parties agreed also to double the exceptional loans and raise the wage and its adoption in the Social Fund budget starting from 2019.
