The publication of “Al-Shaab" newspaper, the oldest Mauritanian daily newspaper, has been stopped to the suffocating financial crisis that hit the country's only national printing press.
“Al-Shaab”, which is released by the Mauritanian News Agency and considered as the official spokesman for the government, was the last daily newspapers that disappeared after nearly half a century of regular publication.
The government's decision to stop the publication of “Al-Shaab” newspaper comes after several attempts to resolve the real crisis of the newspaper sector in Mauritania, which is the financial crisis that hit the national printing press.
In this regard, the financial problems are the main problems of the national printing press, who is asking many ministries and public administrations, and especially the national news agency, to pay back their debts which have contributed to its bankruptcy.
In the meantime, many questions were raised about the mysterious professional future awaiting the journalists and the technicians working in the newspaper, and even those working in the national printing press due to the expulsion that awaits them.
