“Al-Hijjar” complex in Annaba under tension: congestion and 5 workers enter in a hunger strike

Five workers of the SIDER TSS company in “Al-Hijjar” complex in Annaba have entered in a hunger strike for three days, denouncing the injustice and abuse practiced by the management of the complex and the union, which they consider illegal.

According to labor sources, two of them were arrested and expelled to the street, while for the others, their ranks were removed, as well as the rank of chiefs of interests in the Iron and Steel complex. The protesters confirmed that the complex was experiencing internal conflicts, pointing out that the " SIDER syndicate is illegal" as it has expired since February 2016, to be extended by the parties, bringing people with no experience in the trade union work, which raised the dissatisfaction among the protesters.

The hunger strikers asked the Ministry of Industry to intervene to settle these issues, stressing that the complex is witnessing the widespread of tension; and to save the investment file case, which “was partially achieved”.

They also ask for the return to their positions and the payment of their delayed salaries from 6 to 9 months, with the need to return a colleague to his old position because his health conditions do not allow him to work in this field.
