Due to the union’s inaction for the allowance: A trend towards the establishment of an independent union for electricity in Suez

The presidents and members of a number of Suez subsidiary unions announced to the Delta Electricity Company, the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company and the distribution of the channel electricity their withdrawal of confidence from the Council of the members of the general union council of the facilities affiliated with the General Federation of Egyptian Trade Unions.

The legal cooperative for workers' awareness support said that the workers were very angry because of the decisions taken by the head of the Egyptian electricity holding company to deprive the electricity workers of the bonuses set by the government to cope with the increase in prices.

It also added on its Facebook page that the president of the holding company for electricity and the president of the general union of workers, who are members of the board of directors of the holding company, refused to implement the decision in violation of the law issued by the president. Consequently, he heads and members of trade union committees in Suez withdraw their confidence from the union of utilities.

Members of the trade union committees in Suez confirmed that the utilities ‘union procrastinated to defend the right of thousands of workers, who are working in electricity, and to pay them the exceptional allowance approved by Law 96 of 2018 for all employees in the state, without exception.

It is expected that the workers will establish a new union in accordance with Law 213 of 2017 on trade union organizations, which gives the workers the right to form trade unions if they reach 20 000 workers and they had 15 sub-syndicates. Moreover, the requirement of the law to establish a trade union is available in the electricity workers, as they numbers exceeds 150 thousand workers, and their trade unions have about 65 unions.
