Bahrain requires foreign worker to undergo medical examination every time they enter the kingdom

The Services Committee on the parliament recommended the approval of a proposal aimed at requiring workers to re-do the medical examination upon their return to Bahrain, after visiting their countries for annual leave or for any other reason.

The aim of this proposal is to contribute to the prevention of the spread of diseases and epidemics in the kingdom, after it has been shown that there is a lack in the compulsory medical examination to provide comprehensive and effective protection. In fact, the current compulsory medical examination does not include workers returning to the Kingdom of Bahrain from countries where health services may be absent or where there are possibly diseases and epidemics.

On the other hand, the Bahraini Chamber of Commerce and Industry expressed its reservations about the proposal and considered it would constitute an additional financial burden for employers to pay the medical examination fees for their foreign workers, whatever their number, upon their return to the country, in light of the difficult economic conditions experienced by the country.

The Chamber considered that the reasons behind this proposal are illogical because they require that all citizens should undergo medical examination when traveling to some countries where infectious diseases are spread and then return back to the country, as well as all foreign visitors coming from these countries, which is inconceivable and almost impossible in reality.
