The Oran court decided to release 200 migrants from the sub-Saharan Africa after being arrested by security forces in a raid on their homes in “Ain Al-Baida”, “Koka”, Al-Haseb “and Al-Medina Al-Jadida” neighbourhoods.
The “Algérie Part” website quoted security sources that the migrants were sentenced to two months of incommunicado prison in return for leaving the Algerian territory on charges of illegal residence.
The Algerian Association for the Defense of Human Rights and the Immigration and Refugee Affairs Section of SNAPAP expressed their satisfaction with the gradual withdrawal of the authorities from the use of security policy in the immigration file and the respect for the role and jurisdiction of the judiciary, expecting more respect for the freedoms of migrant workers.
