The Jordanian website “Alghad”, reporting from the Tamkeen Center for Help and Support, revealed that there are several violations against migrant workers, who are working in one of the factories in the industrial city of “Al-Hasan”, Irbid, some of which were even included in human trafficking.
The center said that after the investigation in the case and the closure of the factory and its referral to the Irbid criminal court on charges of human trafficking. It was confirmed that the factory had been reopened, although the case is still ongoing in the judiciary. Consequently, the Ministry of Labour closed it again the previous year due to the repeated violations of the owner of the institution. Then, it transferred the workers to other factories and liquidated the factory, however, the owner left the country after that he sold the factory, without any precautionary measure.
In a statement issued by “Tamkeen” Center, the latter confirmed that the workers did not enjoy their rights and wages under the terms and conditions of employing and bringing in non-Jordanian workers in the qualified industrial zones, including their sponsorship under the provisions of the Labour Law and the signed labour contract. In addition, the tickets for the return of workers to their country and fines for exceeding the residence period that may result from the employer non-issuance or renewing of their residence permits on time, which did not happen, according to "Tamkeen."
The center pointed out that despite the charge of human trafficking and other charges against the factory, its management and its owner, the Ministry of Labour did not take any action against the factory that would preserve the rights of the workers, and despite the clear violations against the workers and their monitoring by official reports, the factory was reopened before its definitive closing.
The center criticized the non-consideration of the workers' rights when the factory was sold and liquidated, as well as the non-consideration of the rights of the treasury from the fees of any previous permits. It also pointed out that there is a recurring problem and that it will be repeated at the closure of any factory and the transfer of its workers to other factories, where the workers discover when they seek to recover security benefits for travel reasons that their situation is not settled, at a time when the Ministry of Labour requests from the Social Security Institution " to deprive the workers of their rights until that the employer's permits are paid ", which is considered as belittling of workers and the exploitation of their needs and accusing them for the employer's fault and the Ministry of Labour’s negligence.
