The Fifth Criminal Supreme Court of Appeals rejected an appeal by a convicted dealer for employing an Asian maid at home forcibly, after being brought in with fake documents with the sponsorship of a Bahraini man. The court approved his punishment of one year of imprisonment but ordered a moratorium on the implementation of the sentence for 3 years starting from the date of the verdict.
The court found that during the years 2013 to 2015, the accused tricked his victim and brought her to the Kingdom of Bahrain from her country by claiming to provide her a job opportunity for a monthly wage of 150 dinars. However, she was abused as she worked forcibly as his servant. Moreover, he did not get a valid residence permit in the Kingdom of Bahrain or an identity card and did not transfer his sponsorship to any of his clients, despite being the owner of a recruitment office for foreign workers and threatened to imprison her for her illegal residence papers.
