Morocco / Tétouan: The doctors of the public sector launch a distress call and warn of the collapse of the regional health system

The doctors of the public sector of Tétouan province organized a protest yesterday, following the call of the independent union of doctors of the public sector, to raise awareness of the seriousness of the regional health system, which they considered as collapsing and that it has reached the level of ‘heart attack’.

The protesters stressed in their banners and slogans that they have raised during their protest that they are keen on the importance of providing decent health services to the citizens and preserve their dignity, accusing the authorities of following the policy of disregard and “not taking immediate measures," in light of the possibility of closing several surgical rooms and some hospital departments in the local hospitals.

The doctors revealed that the emergency departments operate in the absence of the most basic medical supplies and emergency medicines, which endanger the lives of patients despite their health coverage. Moreover, most of the health centres have been emptied of medical and nursing staff without compensation, in addition to the operation of surgeries in conditions that do not meet the scientific requirements or they have to be postponed due to the absence of anaesthetics and the acute shortage of the nursing human resources.

It is noteworthy that the doctors are expected to organize days of anger during this month and next month, along with a two-day national strike in July and the boycott of their administrative functions, as well as, the boycott of the medical convoys of political affiliation.
