The Red Cross is forced to transfer more than half of its workers outside Yemen

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) announced the transfer of more than half of its international workers in Yemen for security reasons.

The ICRC operations’ director, Dominik Stillhart, said in a statement that during the last few weeks their activities have been stopped and their workers have been threatened and directly targeted. In fact, there is a clear willingness to exploit their organization in the arena of conflict, according to the statement.

On the other hand, the United Nations confirmed that it does not intend to remove its workers. Jens Laerke, the responsible for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the United Nations Office said: "We can confirm that the United Nations and international workers will remain in Yemen, and in the five active field centres: “Aden”, “Al Hudaydah”, “Ibb”, “Saada” and “Sanaa”.

The Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation revealed that anonymous forces attacked a UN aid ship at “Al Hudaydah” Houthi-controlled port, earlier this week. The organization pointed out that it will have to limit its humanitarian activities, particularly in the area of surgery, the detainees’ visits, drinking water supply and food aid.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), which has been in Yemen since 1962, confirmed its accuse of "all the parties of the conflict, responsible for the security of its members", calling for "concrete and genuine guarantees so that it can continue its work."
