The National Union of Labour Inspectors and Observers in Mauritania declared itself to be a mediator between the striking doctors and the Ministry of Health.
The union of labour observers issued a statement confirming that it "puts all its expertise and potentials in the field of social dialogue at the disposal of the parties to find an amicable solution that satisfies the parties of the conflict and ensures the smooth functioning of this sensitive public facility. Moreover, the crisis between the Ministry of Health and striking doctors has paralyzed the health sector and led to health and social problems on the lives of citizens" according to the text of the statement.
The union called on both parties to accept this initiative, which will be supervised by a group of former inspectors and job observers with long experience in resolving disputes and under the supervision of the executive office of the union, asking the national public opinion to contribute to the success of this mediation.
It is noteworthy that for more than a month, the Mauritanian doctors have been engaged in a labour strike to ask for better working conditions and improving the hospital workers’ status, as well as, the level of health service provided to citizens.
